It seems that the new trend in social media is the anonymous presence where everyone is free to express their thoughts without having to reveal their identity, real or not. After the secret that allows you to say any of your thoughts anonymously, comes the MIT app that attempts to connect strangers with each other.
The app is called 20 Day Stranger and what it does is connect the lives of two complete strangers. It will provide basic information about each other's lives. The information will be collected from the GPS or accelerometer of the participant's mobile phone, for example, it will tell when the other person is out for coffee, riding a bike or at the airport. It will then take a photo from Instagram, Google Maps and other similar services, to send the user's "match" the photo of the location.
There is no possibility of exchanging text messages until the end of the 20th day, when you can send a single message to the other participant if you wish.
The app is currently in beta and anyone can apply to join . As the site states, “You’ll never know who your match is or where they are, but we hope the app provides enough information to help you form a fantastic picture of their life.”
