The windowed environment returns with Windows 8.1
Microsoft is making major changes to Windows 8, with the release of the Windows 8.1 upgrade, as announced at BUILD 2014.
According to the company, the changes will upgrade the user experience of those using this operating system on laptops and desktops.
The most important change is that computers with a keyboard, that is, those without a touchscreen, will automatically load a traditional operating system environment, with tabs - which are the main feature of the new Windows - being eliminated.
This is a practical admission on the part of the company that the attempt to redesign Windows 8 into a version that resembles a tablet did not succeed.
The tabbed environment confused those who grew up using PCs with the familiar “windows.” It was a major change that contributed to the decline in PC sales.
After installing the upgrade, Windows 8.1 laptop and desktop users will be able to enable the above features.
However, in new products with Microsoft software, the changes will be pre-enabled.
Even before the new update, there was an option to boot into a traditional graphical environment with windows. However, now a power button and a search bar will be added to the start screen. In the tabbed start menu, right-clicking on a tab will allow for several common tasks that the user will want to do.
