The Chinese "giant" is not deterred by the unofficial embargo
2013 was the year of the snake in the Chinese calendar and it was also a great year for Huawei and its mobile phones.
With revenues of $38.5 billion (an 8.5% increase over 2012) and 17.8% more retail sales, Huawei ranks third worldwide in the mobile phone manufacturer rankings.
What is remarkable is that only a third of Huawei's revenue growth was due to the Chinese market. The majority of the company's turnover took place in other Asian countries, Europe, and South American countries.
The US government had expressed concern about the security of Huawei's networks, indirectly accusing the company of close ties to the Chinese government and theft of personal and industrial data.
Along the same lines, the governments of Australia and Great Britain essentially issued a "travel advisory" to consumers to avoid Huawei networks and devices.
Nevertheless, the Chinese company is breaking sales records, mainly due to the devices it sells to mobile phone providers around the world, who in turn "baptize" them with their own brand name.
Of course, there are much higher quality Huawei devices, like those we saw at the recent Mobile World Congress.
