When teaching coding becomes a game
The basic principles of programming, that is, the way in which commands must be written in order to be understood by a computer, are learned by children aged 8 to 12 who attend the "Coder Dojo" program, which is hosted at "The Cube Athens" in Exarchia and is free of charge.
"Our goal is for children to learn to use computers through a creative, enjoyable and innovative workshop, which will teach them to write code and create websites, applications for mobile phones and tablets, programs and games. If you leave a child alone, they will play a game for many hours without any purpose. We are trying to get the message across to them that they can make their own game or blog," Maria Kalafati, community curator at "The Cube Athens", tells " Eleftheros Typos "
Classes are held every other week. “The ‘Coder Dojo’ is run with the participation of parents. The parents are also volunteers, so they have the opportunity to spend some quality time with their children,” he explains.
