Earclip-type Wearable PC, the computer… for the ear!

A computer in the form of a headphone has been developed by Japanese researchers from Hiroshima University.
Earclip-type Wearable PC

The Earclip-type Wearable PC, as it's called, weighs just 17g, has built-in GPS, gyroscope, motion sensors, speaker and microphone. With the help of infrared sensors, the "wearable" computer monitors any subtle changes that occur inside the ear due to movement and "reads" the user's eyes and mouth.

According to the scientists, the ear computer is "endowed" with Bluetooth technology and is capable of storing specific commands based on the movements of, for example, the eyes or tongue of its owner. The user will be able to easily and quickly, by slightly gritting his teeth, blinking his eyes or simply sticking out his tongue, open or operate, for example, a program or an application on his mobile phone which will communicate with the Earclip-type Wearable PC.

Hi-tech headset

The designer of the innovative headset is engineer Kazuhiro Taniguchi, who was inspired, according to his words, by the simplicity of the Japanese art of flower arrangement, ikebana.

"We created a 'smart' headphone that can be worn in the same way as an earring," Taniguchi emphasized.

He states that in the same vein, in the future it is not ruled out that hearing aids will acquire high "intelligence" capabilities, as a result of which they will be able to measure the patient's heartbeat and temperature, monitor their diet and possible symptoms of illness (e.g. through sneezing).

Furthermore, for elderly people suffering from dementia, GPS could be a lifesaver as it would detect the patient's location and notify their loved ones.
