IBM researchers in Switzerland have developed a technology that is a significant step towards achieving Internet speeds of 200 to 400Gbps!
This is achieved with the help of an (extremely fast and energy-efficient) analog-to-digital converter, which, as IBM, allows data centers to share information at these… “astronomical” speeds. The ADC chip was presented at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco, and is still in prototype form. It is only part of the network infrastructure required to achieve these speeds, but it is a… good start.
And so, if we had 400Gbps speeds, we could download a two-hour 4K movie (or 40,000 songs) in a matter of seconds. That doesn't sound bad at all...
