Those who typed in the name of Kostas Simitis in the search engine until Sunday afternoon were surprised to see in the biography hosted by Google that the former prime minister had been dead since 2004. Mr. Simitis' political office immediately contacted the cybercrime prosecution, as well as Google, in order to remove this macabre comment against the former prime minister.

The hackers, however, who had managed to break into Simitis' biography on Google had used a complex technique, as a result of which Google and cybercrime took more than five days to manage to withdraw this macabre joke. It should be noted that the date chosen by the hackers for the alleged death of Costas Simitis had symbolic significance, since in 2004 he handed over party power to George Papandreou and did not run in the elections as head of PASOK.
