As part of World Open Data Day (Open Data Day 2014), the Free Software/Open Source Software Association (FSOA) and Metaichmio Publications are organizing a round table.
The topic is topical and hot: How will I live with the Internet in the age of surveillance and open data?
The Internet is an important part of the human environment. It creates and is recreated by reality. A recent example is the Snowden revelations about the surveillance of Internet users, which brought out the worst fear of “big brother”. Users’ concern is not only about the credibility of governments, but also about ensuring privacy in online activities.
On the other hand, the promotion of open government and open data enhances transparency, innovation and citizen participation in political functioning. So how do these changes affect our daily lives and what opportunities do they hold? Are there ways to do something now and what will determine our future with or without the Internet? These are some of the questions that will be raised during the discussion.
The event will take place at the Free Thinking Zone, Skoufa 64 in Athens, on Monday, February 24 , 2014 at 6 p.m.
Keynote speakers will be Diomedes Spinellis, Theodore Karounos and Paschos Mandravelis. The discussion will be moderated by Valia Kaimaki.
The event will be welcomed by the Mayor of Athens, Giorgos Kaminis.
As part of the discussion, Michalis Vafopoulos' book How Will I Live with the Internet? A Framework for Coexistence for Parents, Teachers and Every User (Metaichmio Publications) will be presented.
