A study by electronic security company Solutionary SERT reveals that almost 1 in 2 malware distributed worldwide is stored on servers within the US .
Contrary to what most people probably believe, 44% of the malware in the entire world is "hosted" on servers in the US, while in second place (again to the surprise of many) is Germany , but much further behind with a percentage of just 9%.
The… usual suspects, China and Russia are at 6%, behind the Netherlands, which is at 7% in third place.
According to SERT's findings, a key reason why the US is home to nearly 1 in 2 of the world's malware is the cloud of Amazon and GoDaddy, which account for 16% and 14% of total malware, respectively.
the C&C servers that control the malicious programs are usually located in third countries, which makes it difficult to deal with the problem.
