Mary Pachiadaki, the president of the Heraklion Prefecture Women's Association, has unknowingly fallen victim to an online scam that has been set up against her. She became aware of the scam when she began receiving a barrage of phone calls from friends and acquaintances, who informed her that they were receiving messages from her Facebook account, asking them to donate money, without her ever having sent such a message!
Here is an example of one of the misleading messages sent by the scammers:

Subject: Help & Favor(Mary Pahiadakis)

Subject: Help & Favor(Mary Pahiadakis)
Can I ask you a favor?
Mary
They were asking for $2,800
The messages sent by the person(s) behind the scam concern either sending $2,800 for charity(!), or a plea for financial assistance to a Ukrainian woman.
Regarding the matter, Ms. Pachiadaki reached out to the Cybercrime Unit, which is investigating the fraud, and they recommended that she change her profile so that she would stop being targeted by scammers.
However, special attention is recommended to users of social networking sites for those who approach them online
and especially when there are financial demands after dozens of schemes have been set up.
