Eric J. Rosol, 38, was sentenced to two years of probation for participating in a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack carried out by Anonymous hackers against the Koch Industries website, Kochind.com, in February 2011.
The Wisconsin man will also have to pay a fine of $183,000 (€135,000). Rosol pleaded guilty to the charge of accessing a protected computer.
On February 28, 2011, a large number of people took part in the Anonymous on Koch Industries. All of them used the Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC) tool provided by the company's initiators.
Rosol was one of them. Despite taking part in the attack for about a minute, authorities were able to track him down.
After the attack, which caused problems on the website for about 15 minutes, Koch representatives said they paid $183,000 (€135,000) to a group of consultants to secure the site.
