Apple has acquired German company Patchflyer, which employs just one employee, CEO Jonathan Marvin Ochmann. Patchflyer is known for its color calibration app Color.io, which the EU describes as “a web-based application for managing and calibrating the color of digital images.”

Patchflyer's website states that it develops proprietary tools for color science, spatial measurements, acoustics modeling, as well as various tools and script libraries for complex virtual instruments.
While it's unclear what Apple plans to do with Patchflyer, color calibration is an important aspect of video editing and, to a lesser extent, image editing. This acquisition could boost the capabilities in Apple's apps within the Apple Creator Studio.
Apple typically shuts down or modifies the websites of acquired companies. In the case of Patchflyer, the site is a basic WordPress site without a unique domain name, and two of its three sections now lead to 404 errors.

The acquisition likely took place around October 2025, as indicated by EU filings that require companies to disclose significant acquisitions. However, the EU periodically updates its database, suggesting that Patchflyer was officially acquired in early 2026. The EU also recently registered Apple’s acquisition of Prompt AI, a computer vision startup purchased in October 2025, which is believed to help with Apple Intelligence and HomeKit Secure Video.
