The US military used pirated software

For years, the U.S. military used pirated copies of logistics software that protected soldiers and critical missions. Apptricity, the software's creators, accused the military of willful copyright infringement and sued the government for nearly a quarter of a billion dollars in lost licenses.

In a statement, the Obama administration has agreed to pay $50 million to cover the difference. In recent years, the US has taken an aggressive stance against copyright infringement, both at home and abroad.
