Google Chairman Eric Schmidt believes government censorship will disappear within a decade, thanks to harder-to- crack.
According to Bloomberg, Schmidt said that encryption for internet traffic could also prevent the government from censoring the communications of their population. “We can stop government censorship in a decade. The solution to government surveillance is to encrypt everything,” he said during his speech in Washington.
Several companies have so far announced their intention to increase their security by upgrading encryption levels , such as Google, Facebook and Yahoo. All in the wake of the NSA scandal.
In his speech, Schmidt also acknowledged that the company had strengthened its systems as a result of the most recent events with the NSA. “It’s reasonable to expect that the industry as a whole will continue to strengthen these systems,” he said.
Additionally, Google is working on technology that will allow the end user to communicate securely and protect themselves against hacking attacks. "First they try to block you, then they try to penetrate, then you win. The power shifts," Schmidt said.
