Apple: First firmware update for AirTag 2

AirTag updates are rare, and there's no word yet on what the new software will include. Apple has shared release notes in the past, and software updates typically include bug fixes and improvements.

Previously, the new firmware for AirTag was distributed gradually over a two-week period, but it appears that the latest software is available to all AirTag 2 users immediately.

You can check your AirTag's firmware version by opening the app Find My, going to the Items, tapping on an AirTag in the list, and tapping on the AirTag's name.

There's no way to update your AirTag yourself. The firmware is installed over the air via a connected iPhone. To get the new software, make sure your AirTag is near your iPhone.

Silent but substantial upgrades for AirTag 2

Apple continues its familiar tactic of discrete improvements. Although the company does not reveal details about the content of the upgrade, experience shows that such updates mainly focus on bug fixes, stability improvements and overall performance enhancements. The fact that this is the first update since the release of the second generation suggests that Apple is gradually maturing the platform.

It is noteworthy that, unlike in the past where upgrades were distributed gradually, the new firmware seems to be made available immediately to all users. The process remains fully automated through the Find My application, with no possibility of manual installation. This reinforces Apple's philosophy of simplified user experience, but at the same time maintains a level of "invisibility" around the changes, letting users trust that each update subtly improves the functionality and reliability of their device.
