If you thought that robots are a technology of the future, you are probably wrong. The first «automata» was built in the 1770s. Meet the «The Writer».
From the BBC program «Mechanical Marvels» we present to you the incredible (automata) wonder boy that was built in Switzerland by the watchmaking workshop of Pierre Jaquet-Droz, together with his son Henri-Louis and Jean-Frédéric Leschot.
«The goal was, I think, the mechanization and the reason the automation of passions», says Professor Simon Schaffer in the BBC clip.
Even though from the outside the little one looks like a porcelain doll, its interior consists of 6.000 parts, very carefully refined to fit within the limited space of its body.
