Bitcoin Wallet “Inputs.io” issued an official statement, informing users about the theft of 4,100 Bitcoins from the service, as a result of two cyberattacks.

The value of the stolen bitcoins amounts to $1,100,000 (€800,000), while the service stated that it is currently unable to compensate all users.

Inputs.io – a member of the Bitcoin Foundation – is an electronic wallet service in which users store the details of the Bitcoins they own.

According to security researchers, the attackers breached the service's hosting account by hacking into older email accounts. The cybercriminals were able to easily reset the passwords, as the accounts were not linked to a phone number, as an added security measure.

Inputs.io has a two-factor authentication mechanism, but hackers managed to bypass it by exploiting a server-side vulnerability.

The service's customer database was also breached, but the company assured users that all passwords were hashed and stored securely.
