A case was filed by the Economic Police and Cybercrime Prosecution Service against a 71-year-old Greek national for violating personal data legislation.
As a website administrator, he owned lists with a large number of email addresses which he used to send unwanted electronic communication messages ( spam ).
At the same time, he also possessed a large number of files containing email messages
A regular procedure case was filed by the Economic Police and Cybercrime Prosecution Service against a 71-year-old Greek national, for violation of the legal provisions on the protection of personal data.
This was preceded by a complaint from the Personal Data Protection Authority, according to which a website contained lists with a large number of email addresses of natural persons, as well as files with the content of email messages. According to the complaints, these lists had been used to send unwanted electronic communication messages (spam).
From the police-online investigation, which was carried out in the context of lifting the confidentiality, following an order from the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office to conduct a Preliminary Examination, it emerged that the administrator of the website in question is the 71-year-old Greek national.
From the investigation carried out at the 71-year-old's home in Glyfada, in the presence of a Judicial Officer and with the assistance of an officer of the Personal Data Protection Authority, it was determined that he had previously managed the website in question.
In addition, four (4) computer hard drives were found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for further laboratory examinations.
The case file filed against the 71-year-old will be submitted to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
