Google receives millions of requests asking it to remove links that appear to be infringing sites from its search results. Among those millions of requests, many are false or incorrect, whether intentional or not.
Google detects some of it, but it's hard to control it completely, so unfortunately, it lets some slip through. The company doesn't really care that much, it's more interested in reassuring the entertainment industry that it won't censor the internet.
As expected, however, Google was more direct than usual when one of the requests, from Microsoft, asked to remove Gmail from search results as an infringing website, as reported by TorrentFreak.
It wasn't the only time, though; Google regularly receives requests to remove links to Gmail. The company has created a list for situations like this so that it can reject requests for links that are obviously not illegal.
