New online scam: Facebook starts charging users from January 2015

Hoax-Alert-FacebookScammers claiming that Facebook is about to start charging its users have been around for a while. Now, another such scam has surfaced.
“PLEASE JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN. PLEASE SHARE IF YOU ARE AGAINST IT. News just out. Facebook are planning to charge all users £1.00 per month to continue using their services from 1st January 2015. Share this to your friends if you are against this and think it is unacceptable. Dislike THE SUR-CHARGE PLAN,”
Writes the new message – scam circulating.

The message is fake, Facebook will not charge anyone and there are no plans to do so. However, as Hoax Slayer, the originators of this disinformation campaign have even created a banner.

Facebook makes money through ads and charging users at this point makes no sense.

As always, check the validity of such messages on reliable news websites before reposting them on Facebook.

This is a relatively harmless campaign. However, users who share this news are likely also sharing links that lead to malicious websites.
