We've been waiting for it for a long time and it's finally here! Google+ has started rolling out custom URLs to personal profiles and pages, as long as they meet the requirements that we'll see below. Just like Facebook's custom URLs, the links are becoming shorter and more memorable for the user, but also more search engine friendly.
To accept a Google+ profile custom URL, you must:
– Has uploaded any profile photo (not the pre-selected one)
– Has at least 10 users as followers (i.e. have "circled" him)
– Has created the account at least 30 days ago
To accept a Google+ page custom URL, you must:
– Has connected to a website or is a certified local business
Starting today, users who meet the above requirements and visit their profile or page will receive a message to set a custom URL in each case. The process is expected to take about a week for all users, so be patient if you are not one of the first.
