Apple is expected to upgrade the MacBook Air with an OLED display for the 2028 model, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his latest “ Power On ” newsletter , Gurman says he expects the MacBook Air’s transition from LCD to OLED to happen with a product update in 2028, as part of a larger transition to OLED for the company’s top iPad and MacBook models, which includes the iPad mini, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and MacBook Air – and likely in that order.

Apple already uses OLED displays in the iPad Pro. There appear to be no plans to add OLED to the budget iPad. The MacBook Pro will be upgraded with an OLED display when it is redesigned, possibly as early as the end of the year, and will include touchscreen functionality, according to Gurman and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Apple is expected to update the MacBook Air with M5 processors soon, but that model will continue to have an LCD display. If Apple follows a yearly upgrade cycle, the first MacBook Air with OLED will likely feature M7 processors. Gurman previously reported that Apple has already begun initial work on an OLED MacBook Air.

When the MacBook Air switches from LCD to OLED display technology, it will gain several advantages – brighter displays, deeper blacks with higher contrast, improved energy efficiency that can extend battery life, and other improvements.
