YouTube 's role in the world has also influenced the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which will award the video streaming site an Emmy Award for Engineering and Technology.
The sheer volume of videos hosted by the site has apparently prompted the Academy to give YouTube an Emmy Award. The award will be presented on Wednesday, according to CNET.
“It’s great to receive an Emmy Award. We’re often the guys behind the cameras, keeping the lights on and making sure things are running smoothly,” said Jason Gardtke, engineering manager for the video infrastructure team.
According to him, every minute, YouTube users upload about 100 hours of video and about six billion hours of video are watched by 1 billion people every month.
The Engineering Emmys have been awarded since 1949, and it already looks like a long-awaited win for YouTube.
