Google Google 's latest advertising move, which will place your Google+ profile photo next to ads that appear to your friends, would bring controversy.
Now, Senator Ed Markey has asked the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to review the announced policy change and check whether it is in some way a violation of agreements made with the FTC.
Due to the government shutdown, the FTC can't begin its investigation now, so whatever happens will take time.
However, it is unclear whether any interference is justified. Google has informed users about the change, explaining how the ads work and offering them the option to disable them.
