This change will allow Xbox controllers to easily access Task View in Windows 11 to switch between apps and games using the Xbox button.
“ A new change we’re introducing is that when you hold down the Xbox button, Task View will open ,” explains Microsoft’s Windows Insider team . “ Pressing and holding the Xbox button continues to disable the game controller. ”
This change will align Xbox controllers with the work Microsoft is doing for Windows 11 gaming laptops. The upcoming Xbox Ally will have an Xbox button that, when pressed and held, opens a mobile-friendly task switcher. Microsoft has tweaked the task switcher on mobile devices to have new gestures, and it's unclear if this same interface will come to all Windows 11 gaming PCs.

You can already use a simple press of the Xbox button on mobile devices or controllers to open the Game Bar in Windows 11, and access widgets, games, and performance information. Microsoft has started testing this change with Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, so it should be available to all Windows 11 users in the coming months.
This change is part of a broader strategy from Microsoft to enhance the gaming experience on Windows 11 by giving users more choice and convenience with Xbox controllers. With the growing popularity of gaming laptops, Microsoft is looking to provide a consistent and seamless user experience, regardless of the device being used.
The ability to easily switch between apps and games with the click of a button is a significant improvement, especially for users who use Windows 11 for gaming. Microsoft continues to invest in developing new features and improvements that will make its platform more attractive to gamers.
