Amazon an investment of 40 billion pounds (about $54 billion) in the United Kingdomover the next three years. The investment will fund the construction of four new fulfillment centers as well as the upgrade and expansion of the company's existing facilities across the country.

The move was welcomed by the British government, which is seeking to attract major technology investment to boost domestic growth and productivity. The UK economy shrank by 0.3% in April, partly due to trade tariffs and tax increases imposed by the US government.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Amazon's investment would create thousands of new jobs and was proof of the success of the government's growth strategy. Specifically, the company plans to hire 2,000 workers at a new fulfillment center in Hull and a further 2,000 jobs at a facility in Northampton.
Amazon will also open two new buildings at its East London headquarters , improve its transport infrastructure across the country and renovate Bray Film Studios in Berkshire. The company has already committed to a five-year £8 billion investment in data centres in the UK, aimed at boosting its artificial intelligence capabilities.

However, Amazon isn't the only major tech company investing in the UK. TikTok announced the opening of a new 135,000-square-foot office in London, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huangcalled the country "an incredible place to invest."
On the other hand, recent tax increases by Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves have raised concerns in the tech community, with several entrepreneurs expressing fears that the UK remains less of a welcoming environment for high-growth startups.

Amazon Investments
recently announced that it will spend A$20 billion (about $12.97 billion) between 2025 and 2029 to expand, operate, and maintain its data center infrastructure in the country. According to a related post, the investment will boost server capacity and support generative AI workloads — a strategic move amid growing global demand for AI and computing power.

In addition to digital infrastructure, Amazon also announced the development of three new solar parks in the states of Victoria and Queensland.
This new commitment comes just weeks after announcing a $10 billion investment in North Carolina and more than $5 billion for new cloud infrastructure in Taiwan — indicative of Amazon's global strategy to expand its presence in key AI and cloud computing markets.
At the same time, Amazon further strengthened its strategy, revealing that it will invest at least $20 billion in Pennsylvania, continuing its dynamic expansion in the US.
