This move may be due to the fact that many users are creating images in the style of Japanese animation company Studio Ghibliusing OpenAI's ImageGen model. This situation has raised concerns about copyright and the training data used by the company.

In general, ChatGPT has recently attracted the world's attention thanks to its Image Generation model, powered by the GPT-4o model, and is considered the most advanced multi-model released to date. Not only can it accurately generate images with texts, but it also allows the creation of realistic graphics.

ChatGPT's ImageGen model was previously limited to paid users (ChatGPT Plus customers), but has now been released to everyone, including those with a free subscription.

As spotted by artificial intelligence researcher Tibor Blaho, it appears that OpenAI is now testing a new watermark called “ImageGen” for users who use the tool for free. ChatGPT Plus users will be able to save images without the watermark.

However, it is unclear whether OpenAI will release the feature widely. It is in the testing phase.

The testing of a new watermark for ChatGPT 4o’s Image Generation model demonstrates OpenAI’s ongoing effort to strengthen the recognition and authenticity of AI-generated. This move is important, especially in light of concerns about potential misinformation through AI-generated images.
