CISA says it will continue to monitor malicious activity linked to Russia, disputing reports from various media outlets about an alleged halt in monitoring and reporting of Russian cyber threats.
“ CISA’s mission is to defend against all cyber threats targeting U.S. critical infrastructure, including Russia,” the U.S. agency posted on X. “There has been no change in our position. Any suggestion to the contrary is false and undermines our national security .”
On Saturday, reports emerged that the Trump administration no longer sees Russia as a cyber threat to its critical infrastructure and interests. The reports said that CISA would begin prioritizing China. It was also said that CISA analysts were verbally instructed not to monitor or report on Russian cyber activity.

CISA is a government agency responsible for protecting U.S. critical infrastructure, including election infrastructure. It protects against both cyber and physical threats. Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the US Department of Homeland Security, told BleepingComputer that reports circulating about the cessation of Russian surveillance are not true and that CISA will continue to address cyber threats from the country.

TheRecord also reported on Friday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the Cyber Command to withdraw from any planned offensive operations against Russia.
The New York Times and the Washington Post also reported on this change, but said it was intended to last only during negotiations to stop Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
