YouTube is currently working on a new, better-optimized, landscape layout for Android devices. The new layout isn't currently available to everyone, but some users may be seeing it.

YouTube is one of the best apps out there, and Google is constantly working to improve the experience for its users. Now, the Mountain View tech giant is focusing on landscape-oriented phones and larger foldable screens and tablets with some upcoming tweaks.
The folks at Android Authority have spotted that Google is working to improve YouTube's landscape experience for larger screen ratios. The app is currently optimized for portrait orientation. If you try to rotate to landscape, you'll be greeted with a landscape view that's essentially portrait orientation, rotated.
With the current experience, channel updates appear at the top while your subscription feed is located below it. The current layout is somewhat narrow, and there is wasted horizontal white space.

With YouTube app v19.50.36, Google is testing some useful UI changes for landscape orientation. The change was spotted on a foldable phone, but should also be available for tablets when it releases.
The new layout places the subscription flow better, while channel updates are located on the left side of navigation. The videos are in the second column. Also, the thumbnail size has been corrected to utilize the lost white space and facilitate navigation in the user environment. The channel view is also cleaner now.

Thanks to the changes, you have more information on the screen in landscape orientation and it generally looks better and cleaner. This new layout is currently being tested, so it hasn't been officially released and we don't have any details on when it will be. Hopefully, the change will come soon.
