Regional Care breach affects 225,000 people

Nebraska- based health insurance company Regional Care has disclosed a data breach affecting more than 225,000 people .

Regional Care violation

The insurance administrator is notifying affected individuals that their personal and medical information may have been compromised as a result of an incident identified in mid-September 2024. Regional Care discovered at that time that there was unusual activity on an account in its network. The compromised account was immediately terminated.

An investigation conducted with the help of cybersecurity found that an “unauthorized party” had possibly obtained some files from its systems.

The company determined on November 8 that some of the compromised records contained sensitive personal information, including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical information and health insurance information.

People whose Social Security numbers were exposed are being offered free credit monitoring services. Regional Care informed the Maine Attorney General's Office that the breach affects more than 225,000 people.

The insurance company has not released any other information about the breach. No known ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Regional Care at this time.
