Seagate's new hard drive, which is based on the long-promised heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), is almost ready.

According to Tom's Hardware, a new sales page on Seagate's website has revealed the launch of the Exos M 30TM, a 32TB hard drive (HDD). The drive packs 3TB per drive and offers three times the energy efficiency per terabyte compared to other hard drives, making it an impressive choice for efficient data storage.

The new hard drive is based on Seagate's Mozaic 3+ platform and is the first HDD to use HAMR technology. HAMR refers to a magnetic storage process where localized heating is applied to the disk material during writing. This method allows for smaller recording areas and more space per disk.

Such and other technological innovations could in the future pave the way for the creation of hard drives with capacities of up to 50TB.
