The world of League of Legends is expanding again – this time with the addition of a physical card game.

Riot Games today announced the development of a collectible card gameset in the world of League. The project, currently known as “Project K,” is expected to launch in China in early 2025, in collaboration with an as-yet-unknown local partner. Regarding the global launch, Riot says, “We are taking our time to find the right distribution partners.”

Few details have been revealed about Project K so far. According to Riot, the game offers “unique gameplay” and is designed to be best played with friends and in person. Development is being led by director Dave Guskin and producer Chengran Chai. You can get a first look at the game in the images below.
This isn't the first League of Legends spin-off. Riot has already branched out into a number of areas, including mobile games Teamfight Tactics and Wild Rift, the hit Netflix series Arcane, and the competitive fighting game 2XKO, which is expected to launch next year. However, not all of Riot's efforts have been successful.
In January, the company announced cutting more than 500 jobs, including the shutdown of Riot Forge Games, a platform for indie games based on the League universe. Also, Legends of Runeterra, the mobile card game released in 2020, failed to meet expectations.

The announcement of Project K comes at a time of renewed interest in card games, thanks largely to the new smartphone, which has piqued the interest of players worldwide.
