On August 2, China approved 15 new video games for release in the country. The main upcoming games are Marvel Rivals, Rainbow Six, and Dynasty Warriors, as well as a mobile game based on Final Fantasy 14.
Due to China's strict censorship laws, all video games not developed by Chinese game studios require a license (ISBN) from the NPPA to be officially released in the country. Releases are announced every two months. Video games not developed by Chinese developers require local tech groups to be released.
According to the post made by Daniel Ahmadon X (Twitter), he confirms the release of the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 in China, with the mobile version being developed by Tencent's Lightspeed Studios and Square Enix for mobile.
Another game that has been approved is from the Rainbow Six series of games for both PC and mobile platforms. We believe this is the release of Rainbow Six Siege Mobile. The approval of the upcoming video game is interesting, as Rainbow Six Siege was never officially approved in the country, with its ban extending to sales as well as live streaming.
According to reports, Tencent will publish the games Rainbow Six and Final Fantasy 14, while NetEase will release Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals.
It's unclear whether the Final Fantasy 14 mobile port being developed in China will be exclusive to one mobile manufacturer, or whether it will be available on all iOS and Android devices.
So far this year there have been 76 releases in China, 98 in 2023, 44 in 2022 and 76 in 2021.
Mobile isn't the only platform to welcome Final Fantasy 14. On March 21, 2024, Final Fantasy 14 was also released on the next-gen Xbox One X|S consoles. And it was released on PS5 on May 25.
