Wayne Ma and Qianer Liu from The Information published an extensive report on the “iPhone 17 Air” today, revealing many new details about the device.

According to the report, the prototypes are between 5mm and 6mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone to date. For comparison, the iPhone 16 models are 7.8mm thick, while the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25mm thick.

This ultra-thin design requires some design compromises. The device lacks a physical SIM card slot and will likely rely entirely on eSIM technology, although the design has not been finalized. In the US, all iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 models do not include a physical SIM card slot, although in other countries it still exists.

The device is said to have only one speaker in the earpiece, as there isn’t enough space for a second speaker at the bottom. The “iPhone 17 Air” will be equipped with an Apple, which is smaller and more efficient than Qualcomm. However, Apple’s modem won’t support the ultra-fast speeds of mmWave 5G, delivering lower data speeds.
