Universal Music Group was the victim of a data breach in mid-July, resulting in the compromise of some of its data.
According to a filing with the Maine Attorney General's Office, UMG detected unauthorized activity in one of its internal applications and immediately worked with experts to investigate and remediate. The breach occurred on July 15, 2024.

“We determined that an unauthorized user obtained data that may have included personal information. We hired a firm to review the data . We received the results on August 30, 2024, and worked with an attorney to determine which individuals to notify,” UMG’s notice states.
The breach affected the data of 680 U.S. residents. The hacker had access to personal information, such as names and social security numbers. UMG found no evidence of misuse of these leaks.

For those affected, UMG is offering a free 24-month subscription to Experian IdentityWorks, a credit monitoring and identity theft protection service. The filing does not say whether any sensitive information or company systems were affected. No ransomware gang or other threat actor has claimed responsibility, according to Cybernews
