Joining an unknown chat group can be uncomfortable, which is why Meta wants to inform its users about these groups on WhatsApp.
This week, the company announced an update to WhatsApp that introduces a feature that will help usersby providing more context about unknown chat groups they have been added to.

A new feature in WhatsApp allows users to see a pop-up window with details about group chats. Similar to the window that appears when they receive a message from someone outside their contacts, this screen will show information like who created the group chat, who added you, and when it was created.
If the user feels annoyed about being added to this group, there will be a “Leave Group” button accompanied by an information pop-up. If, of course, you wish to remain in the group chat, you can simply ignore the pop-up and start sending messages.
"This offers WhatsApp users an extra layer of protection, leveraging tools like muting unknown callers, locking conversations, in-app privacy settings, and controlling who can add you to groups. We continue to develop new ways for them to manage their privacy," a Meta spokesperson told 9to5Mac.

It's worth mentioning that WhatsApp users can choose whether everyone or only their contacts will add them to group chats.
Last month, WhatsApp introduced other new features, such as sending photos and videos in HD by default, as well as improvements to video calling. Earlier this year, the app was revamped with an improved interface on both iOS and Android.
