The action series “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” based on the popular SEGA game is coming to Prime Video.

The six-episode crime action and suspense series is directed by Take Masaharu (“100 Yen Love”) and Takimoto Kengo (“Kamen Teacher”) and stars Takeuchi Ryoma (of multiple “Kamen Rider” series) as the central character, Kiryu Kazuma.
It will be released on Amazon Prime Video in two installments of three episodes on October 25 and November 1, with subtitles and dubbed versions in 30 languages.
The series' story takes place in two time periods, 1995 and 2005, and follows the life, childhood friends, and consequences of the decisions of a fearsome and unparalleled Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity. The script and story are by Sean Crouch and Nakamura Yugo, with a Japanese script by Yoshida Yasuhiro and Yamada Kana.

Released in 2005 by SEGA, the “Yakuza” game series was positioned as an entertaining game for adults and found immense admiration among its target audience. The “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” series depicts the lives of tough yet passionate gangsters and people living in a vast entertainment district, Kamurochō, a fictional area inspired by the violent Kabukichō district of Shinjuku, which serves as the setting for the game.
The series "presents modern-day Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, like the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that past games were unable to explore," Prime Video said.
The film is produced by The Fool and executive produced by Erik Barmack, Roberto Grande and Joshua Long.

“I have poured all my heart, soul, and experience gained over 35 years into 'Like a Dragon: Yakuza,'” said director Take.
“The unbridled demand for Japanese content from Japan and other parts of the world is growing exponentially. While Prime Video Japan continues to offer a variety of content across genres, adapting an internationally popular gaming franchise that has such deep appeal and multi-layered characters presents a unique charm and makes it an extremely compelling series,” said James Farrell, head of international originals, Amazon MGM Studios.
Yokoyama Masayoshi, head of Ryugagotoku Studio and executive producer, said: “Since the day I first wrote the script for the original ‘Yakuza’, I have never considered reworking anything from the series. This is because I understand very well the challenges and difficulties that come with remaking a complete title. However, if I could travel back in time through some cosmic joke, that would be the experience I would want to create. If I had to go through a lot anyway, I would want to create the most engaging versions of Kamurochō and Kazuma Kiryu – and this series has it all. While games allow you to experience their worlds from a subjective perspective, this port will be the most objective way to enjoy the series. I have no doubt that fans of the series will be captivated by the way it brings the games to life and adds new surprises. I am sure newcomers will find themselves."
