Android 15 will bring a number of new features to Android phones, and one of them may be related to screen timeout settings.
Android expert Mishaal Rahmanspotted some strings hinting at a new Adaptive Screen Timeout feature in the second Android 15 Developer Preview. According to them, the setting “automatically turns off the screen early if the device.”
At the moment, we don't know how Android will determine when a phone is not in use, but it's likely not just about the absence of touch. It could use a detection method similar to the one implemented in the current Screen attention setting, which uses the device's front-facing camera to see if someone is looking at the screen.

Interestingly, these strings are located in com.google.*, which Rahman says suggests that the adaptive timeout feature will likely launch on Pixel. However, the feature could later expand to other devices, similar to the Screen Attention feature that debuted with the Pixel 4 and later rolled out to other smartphones.
Adaptive Timeout offers an additional layer of privacy protection by increasing the security of personal data by automatically turning off the device's screen when not in use, preventing access by unwanted users.

The operating system will intelligently turn off the screen and automatically lock it when you stop using the device. This also helps save battery life, as the screen won't be on for too long, unnecessarily draining power.
At the moment, we don't know any other details about the timeout feature, but we may learn more as Google continues to release Android 15 preview builds.

Google is expected to reveal more details about Android 15 during its I/O conference, which is scheduled to begin on May 14.
