The Finals broke into the first-person shooter with a stunning smash hit, surpassing the genre's most popular franchises like CoD. Since its surprise release after The Game Awards 2023, the game has steadily gained its audience.
The Finals may become much more competitive as developers identify an issue that may be affecting the skills gap.
A problem with their anti-fraud software may have allowed scammers to flourish.
As the first major game from Embark Studios, The Finals faced its share of hurdles upon its initial release. Players have expressed their opinions on the game's skill-based matchmaking (in skill-based matchmaking, the design of the queuing system focuses on determining the most efficient way to categorize teams into groups of appropriate skill levels) and the impact it seems to have on enjoyment.
But it may not be SBMM that makes The Finals noticeably unbalanced. According to Community Leader Dusty Gustaffson, The Finals is facing a technical issue that has prevented its team from adequately controlling cheaters.

Originally reported by Eurogamer, Gustaffson reached out to the game's community via Discord to announce some new steps being taken regarding the bug. This was followed by a surge in reports of cheating on The Finals subreddit.
The Finals uses Easy Anti-Cheat as its default anti-cheat software, but according to Gustaffson, “it’s not our only anti-cheat measure.” Gustaffson revealed that some part of the other anti-cheat system had “a technical issue that prevented us from effectively blocking cheaters.”
Fortunately, it seems that developers at Embark Studios are on the right track to a fix. “We are now getting closer to a fix for this bug, and we have already started to re-enforce our anti-cheat measures,” Gustaffson explained.
“I hope your experience is ready to improve,” he assured players. “Please give us time to fix things. We are young and we are working out the details. I have faith in the team.”

We’ll see how a fix for this technical glitch affects the feel of The Finals. Hopefully, The Finals will overcome these issues and players will be able to focus on the positives of the game. Its excellent destruction mechanics have already led players to create “nuclear bombs” with improvised explosive devices, and we’re sure more can be done.
