MediaTek now presents us with a slightly more affordable processor, the Dimensity 8300, with Generative AI!
Although it is at a lower level than the Dimensity 9300, it is a powerful processor aimed at upper mid-range smartphones. The Dimensity 8300 provides remarkable gaming capabilities and even On-Device Generative AI capabilities.
The processor is already available in the Chinese market, and the first phone to incorporate this processor will be the Xiaomi Redmi K70E which is expected to be released later this month.
MediaTek Dimensity 8300 has 20% faster CPU and 60% faster GPU than Dimensity 8200
The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 offers a 20% faster CPU and 60% faster GPU compared to the Dimensity 8200. Built on TSMC’s second-generation 4nm node, it features an octa-core CPU with three clusters: 1x Cortex-A715 (3.35GHz) + 3x Cortex-A715 (3GHz) + 4x Cortex A510 (2.2GHz). All eight CPU cores are based on the ARM v9 architecture and collectively offer 20% more performance than the Dimensity 8200 processor released last year.

The advanced processor also includes the ARM Mali-G615 MC6 GPU, which is said to be 60% faster than last year’s processor. According to MediaTek, the new processor provides a CPU that is 30% more energy efficient than the Dimensity 8200 at the same working conditions, while the GPU is supposed to be 55% more energy efficient at maximum speeds. The GPU can drive a Full HD+ resolution display with a 180Hz refresh rate or a WQHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Additionally, according to MediaTek, the Dimensity 8300 launches applications from cold (i.e. during the first boot of the device) 17% faster and launches applications from standby 47% faster compared to the Dimensity 8200. The new processor is compatible with LPDDR5X RAM in a quad-channel configuration at 8,533Mbps and should be combined with integrated UFS 4.0 for storage with MCQ (Multi-Circular Queue) technology.
The built-in Imagiq 980 image processor supports cameras up to 320MP and 4K video recording at 60fps with HDR10+. It can also support simultaneous image capture from three 32MP cameras. The image processing unit supports portrait videos (with real background blur effect), EIS, HDR, noise reduction and AI-assisted color correction.
The Dimensity 8300 supports Generative AI processing on the device
The MediaTek APU 780 inside the Dimensity 8300 is the first in the industry to support Generative AI with fixed diffusion and LLM (Large Language Model). This allows phones to offer Generative AI features such as text-to-image conversion, AI-assisted email composition, language correction, and article summarization. This APU is 3.3 times faster than the equivalent in the Dimensity 8200.

The Dimensity 8300's connectivity features include sub-6GHz 5G (SA and NSA), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 (with LE Audio), NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Location and navigation specifications on the chip include support for BDS (triple frequency B1I+ B2a + B1C), Galileo (dual frequency E1 + E5a), GLONASS (L10F), GPS (triple frequency L1CA + L5 + L1C), NavIC, and QZSS (dual frequency L1CA+ L5).
This processor competes with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 that was unveiled a few days ago. Samsung should consider using the Dimensity 8300 in some of its higher mid-range phones, as it seems to offer a really efficient processor with good value for money.
