TikTok brings text posts to “hit” the X (Twitter)

TikTok is now offering users the ability to post text-only content , which seems like a challenge to Elon Musk's new X platform , previously known as Twitter. The move marks a new step for the popular online platform, offering additional options for creating and communicating through text.

Announcing the new post format on Monday, the platform said that with this move it is expanding the possibilities for creators so that they can share their ideas and express their creativity in even more ways.

With text posts, we’re expanding the boundaries of content on TikTok, giving the written creativitywe’ve seen in comments, captions, and videosa special place to shine creation ,” the company said

Users now have the ability to share “stories, poems, recipes and other written content,” while also adding other elements, such as audio, stickers and background colors, among other features.

In these text posts, TikTok users will be able to tag other accounts and hashtags related to trending topics. This functionality is quite reminiscent of Twitter, now known as X, after its rebranding on Monday.

With this move, the Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, seems to want to “hit” Twitter, which has faced many issues in recent months. Since the platform was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk in October last year, many changes have been made. Initially, Musk fired more than half of the staff, while many other employees decided to resign. There have also been changes to various features of the platform, including a significant change in the account, which has caused a lot of reactions. In the midst of these situations, Twitter has recorded a huge drop in advertising revenue.

Now it seems that other big companies want to “hit” it even harder. In addition to TikTok’s new text-based content format, Threads, a new app from Meta, that surpassed 100 million user in its first week of release.

It remains to be seen whether the extra competition and Twitter's logo change from the iconic blue bird to the letter X will affect its popularity. Musk renamed Twitter to X on Monday, giving the platform a new website domain and logo. The change is part of an effort to turn the market into something truly his own.

Musk's vision for X is similar to WeChat , a super app that people can use for entertainment and buying goods and services online, in addition to posting updates and messaging their friends.

TikTok's announcement of text support on the platform could broaden the app's popularity to even more users and content creators. This feature could encourage those who prefer to communicate through written language to participate and actively contribute to the platform.
