Microsoft Teams is getting an important security update to keep your data safe.

Microsoft Teams is set to benefit from a series of security enhancements as it deploys various tools and services from Defender for Office 365.

The video conferencing service is receiving a series of security-focused upgrades as Microsoft strives to help users around the world stay safe.

The new additions include full end-to-end protection for Microsoft Teams, as well as an improved experience for IT administrators and Security Operations (SecOps) teams everywhere.

Microsoft Teams security

Originally announced in March 2023 but rolling out now, among other new features is the ability for users to report suspicious messages directly in Teams, similar to what is already available for reporting suspicious emails in Microsoft Outlook.

Security teams will be notified whenever users report suspicious messages, with the ability to block or quarantine potential threats, and will be able to view them in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal.

Microsoft is also adding to existing advanced hunting capabilities in Microsoft 365 Defender to support security for teams and giving IT administrators the opportunity to run attack simulations to raise awareness and provide protection against threats like phishing.

Collaboration Security for Microsoft Teams is now available to Microsoft E5, Microsoft E5 Security, or Microsoft Defender for Office 365 customers.

Microsoft Teams receives a significant security update

Microsoft has long tried to pioneer enterprise security, so it's welcome news to see this series of upgrades to one of its most popular products.

The fact that the upgrades don't just concern users, but also benefit security professionals and administrators , should be welcomed, as it shows that Microsoft is truly listening to customer concerns and responding accordingly .

The launch follows recent Microsoft research, which found that nearly three-quarters (71%) of companies admitted to sharing sensitive and business-critical data through collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams.
