Video hosting and sharing platform Vimeo is actively implementing AI technology. This week, Vimeo announced that it has created a suite of artificial intelligence tools .

These tools help users create scripts, capture footage, and remove long pauses and unwanted deviations from recordings. The videos will be available starting July 17th through Standard . That plan costs $20 per month , billed annually.
Ashraf Alkarmi, Vimeo's VP of Product, says that Vimeo's new features are aimed at novice video creators, such as company leaders, employees, and managers , who lack the skills, time, and resources to achieve the results they want.
According to a survey by Vimeo, 50% of its customers make multiple downloads when creating a video, and of those who return, 25% make more than five downloads.
“While it’s the most effective way to communicate powerful messages, video production inherently creates a barrier to this preferred communication channel,” Alkarmi told TechCrunch via email. “Our latest AI-powered workflow reduces these barriers, giving every creator the confidence to create truly one-shot videos.”

Vimeo uses a new video script generator that uses genetic artificial intelligence (OpenAI API). Based on a short description and basic inputs such as pitch and duration, it creates a video script. The teleprompter tool features a script screen that can be configured with different font sizes and scrolling speeds. The editor can automatically detect and remove filler words and awkward pauses.
Alkarmi observes the tools used to quickly create reels and highlights the tools used to host virtual events or corporate meetings and create offer clips for short marketing videos.
Of course, using AI to achieve these goals is a modern approach. However, according to Alkarmi, Vimeo has been investing in AI for some time. In 2019, the company acquired Magisto, a company that developed AI technology for video editing. Vimeo created a tool called “Create,” which is based on Magisto’s infrastructure. With this tool, users can create videos by combining stock photos, videos, and personal files.

Alkarmi believes that AI will continue to be central to Vimeo’s progress. This is a smart move from a competitive perspective. There are now several startups, such as Capsule, Descript , and Dumme, offering AI-powered video editing tools. Adobe and Vimeo see AI as a key component of video editing in the future, similar to other players in the industry.
