This summer, Fitbit users will be able to enjoy simplified access through a Google account, the two companies announced in a press release on Tuesday.

With the upcoming feature, current Fitbit users can seamlessly transfer their accounts to Google. With the introduction of this new measure, the company will make it simpler for customers to access their accounts with a single password. Google not only claims that the addition of Fitbit will increase privacy control, but it also gives users the ability to manage their data in the Google Privacy Center.
When Google bought Fitbit in 2021, it made sure to emphasize its commitment to privacy , declaring that user health and wellness data collected by Fitbit would not be used for advertising purposes.
By 2025, Fitbit account holders will have to transfer their accounts to Google.

In 2021, Google acquired Fitbit for a whopping $2.1 billion with the aim of tapping into the lucrative wearables rather than collecting user data. By reiterating its commitment to data protection, the search giant sought to assuage growing concerns from the European Commission on the issue. Google then leveraged Fitbit’s features to create its first wearable – the Pixel Watch – last year. While Google’s move into Fitbit has been seen as controversial, James Park, Fitbit’s CEO and now head of Google’s wearables division, insists the brand will remain intact.
It seems that the long-awaited Pixel Watch with Fitbit is enjoying significant success. Although official statistics from Google remain secret, preliminary reports indicate that the Pixel Watch is an extremely sought-after item - around 880,000 units have been shipped in the fourth quarter of 2022.
