AT&T recently notified 9 million customers that their personal information may have been exposed after a marketing vendor hack that occurred in January.

Although AT&T's disclosure of the data breach did not disclose how many customers were affected, it informed BleepingComputer that nine million wireless accounts experienced unauthorized access to their customers' proprietary network information.
The sensitive CPNI information exposed includes customer names, wireless account numbers, mobile phone numbers , and email addresses.
The company maintained that its systems were not affected by the third-party security incident and that only data related to device upgrade eligibility was exposed.

Law enforcement authorities notified of the breach
Customers are advised to disable the sharing of CPNI data on their accounts by submitting a CPNI Restriction Request to reduce the risks of exposure in the future if AT&T uses it for third-party marketing purposes.
In August 2021, AT&T categorically denied allegations of a data breach when a notorious cybercriminal offered for sale a database that he claimed contained the personal information of 70 million customers.
