Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 FE in October 2020 as a base model. The phone was a huge success, but a semiconductor shortage in 2021 delayed the release of its successor. The Galaxy S21 FE finally arrived in January 2022, but it didn’t attract as many buyers as the original model. The component shortage issue led to a price hike, making it less attractive to prospective buyers. Speculation quickly began to spread that the FE series was coming to an end.
Time and again, rumors have been circulating about a new Samsung FE model. According to Korean publication Hankooki, the Galaxy S23 FE could be released sometime in either August or September of this year. It is likely to be launched alongside other flagships like their newest smartwatches at an event that Samsung will hold in August, but if not, then it is expected to be unveiled separately during September.
The Galaxy S23 FE will fill the gap left by the Galaxy A series
Samsung's FE phones occupy the space between the flagship Galaxy S series and the mid-range Galaxy A models. Last year, they found themselves competing with each other in terms of pricing and specifications due to similarities - as a result, neither phone did well in sales. In light of this situation, Samsung is reevaluating how it approaches this price bracket, discontinuing the Galaxy A7x - there will be no new model! The higher-end device that consumers can expect from it instead will be the Galaxy A54 which will be released soon during 2023.
