ITC: Apple found guilty of infringing heart rate monitor patent

The International Trade Commission has upheld its ruling that Apple infringed on AliveCor's heart rate monitoring patents. President Biden has pledged to review the ruling within 60 days and make a final decision by February 12.

The International Trade Commission (ITC) has suspended enforcement of the ruling, pending AliveCor's appeal of the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board's December decision that invalidated three patents.

It is not at all certain that the president will agree to the mandate.

In addition to this case, AliveCor is filing a damages lawsuit against Apple in the Northern District of California, with trial scheduled for early 2024.

For years, the two companies have been fiercely competing for dominance in ECG technologies, which are used by both the Apple Watch and the KardiaBand. Both sides accuse each other of infringing on their respective patents.
