As Sony's latest financial report reveals, the company's PlayStation Plus subscription service has seen a decline in users over the last three months, from 47.3 million to 45.4 million, a decrease of 4%.
Sony said that the number of players signed up for the service is much higher on PS5 than on PS4. In response, Sony plans to increase the number of people who own a PS5 so that it can “recapture that user engagement going forward.”.

In the last quarter, the number of active users on the PlayStation Network fell by one million players to 102 million.
Even though Sony's digital numbers fell, the company had a great showing when it came to PlayStation 5 hardware. In fact, it announced that it sold more than 25 million units and managed to produce 6.5 million new PS5s in the three months ending September 30th.
Sony announced the revamp of its PlayStation Plus service in March, but didn't fully launch it until June, when the three new tiers arrived in Europe, Australia , and New Zealand. The subscription is somewhat similar to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass.

The Essential tier offers the same PlayStation Plus features as the original version – players can play online and receive free games every month – but the Extra and Premium tiers add new content.
