Amazon at the last moment postponed its plan to stop customers from using Visa credit cards.

The company had said it would stop accepting Visa cards from January 19, accusing them of «high Visa fees for processing credit card transactions». The plan caused confusion and difficulties for those customers with the cards, who were about to be blocked from shopping on Amazon.

However, now he/she said that the change will not take place on Wednesday and that Amazon and Visa are working on a «potential solution» that will allow people to continue using their credit cards. He/she announced the postponement with a letter to customers as well as a press release, and did not provide information about what this solution could be.
Visa confirmed the news. “Amazon customers can continue to use Visa cards on Amazon.co.uk after January 19th, while we work closely with the company to reach an agreement,” it said in a statement.
Amazon did not rule out reinstating the changes in the future. However, it said it would provide advance notice of any changes and customers could continue to use Visa credit and debit cards as normal until then.

When Amazon announced the change in November, it said it no longer wanted to pay, as it said, the excessively high processing fees required when its customers use their Visa credit cards.
However, Visa accused Amazon of «threatening to limit consumer choices in the future». «When consumer choices are limited, no one wins», it said then.
