Microsoft is bringing Sleeping Tabs to Edge as a way to reduce the load that existed in previous versions of the web browser.

The advent of tabbed browsing is both a blessing and a curse. While it makes it easier to keep multiple websites open at once, it also makes it easier to open multiple websites at once. And with each tab taking up memory, tabbed browsing can be a serious drain on system resources.
To help combat this, Sleeping Tabs are being released which essentially hibernate inactive tabs to reduce their resource usage, freeing up memory for other purposes.

Sure, it's nice to be told that the browser feature saves resources, but have you ever taken the time to check how much RAM is free and how much CPU usage is going on when a tab is asleep compared to when it's active? Probably not; you just think the feature works.
But now Microsoft is getting a little ahead of the curve. In the latest Canary of Edge, if you hover over a sleeping tab, you'll see a pop-up telling you the estimated savings. The feature was first spotted by Leo Varela, who shared the news on Reddit.
Laptop users may be able to back up the information provided by the informative pop-up simply by noticing that their battery life is improved, but if you're not willing to do all the above checking, just trust what Microsoft Edge gives you.

But providing this information raises a question. When Microsoft Edge calculates your resource savings, does it actually consume other resources? The answer is, undoubtedly, “yes,” but the impact is so negligible that it’s something you have to pay for the extra information provided to you.
